My eyes have had a wild ride this last month (self.Blind)
submitted by playwhaat
So I recently went in for my regular check up to have my eyes dilated and then get the photos(sorry I’m blanking on what it is) taken to make sure nothing is tearing. Long story short this is what they found(this was explained to me in person but easier to post the doctors notes)

Myopia of both eyes with astigmatism

Congenital cataract of both eyes

Vitreomacular traction

Vitreomacular adhesion, unspecified eye (Final)

Congenital cataract (Final)

So I am 28 years old. This is the first time anyone has EVER mentioned Congenital cataracts. I know it’s not a big deal but isn’t this a bit odd to have someone just now find it?

On top of this weird last eye exam, I now have viral pink eye. I have been stuck wearing my glasses which are extremely uncomfortable due to my high prescription. On top of that my eye doctor was kind enough to say that I had the worst vision of anyone he’s seen in 5 years. Thanks. It’s been over a week and I’m still sick, yet the doctor didn’t actually do a test, just looked at my eyes and went “yep can’t do anything for you, gotta wait it out”

Tl:dr I’m unsatisfied and confused by my latest optometrist appointments. Free healthcare can be a bitch sometimes.

Welp, looks like you've outgrown the optometrists 😜 Gotta start seeing an opthalmologist. They're better at dealing with more advanced vision issues.

I am so sorry to hear you went through that. My husband has RP and we have had similar instances with doctors he has gotten to the point where you just doesn't want to go anymore. They always tell him there are no cures right now and they can't really do anything for him either. A couple doctors have cried so I think part of it might be that they just want to be callous about it even though they don't understand how hard it is to lose something so important to life quality. If you can't I would suggest finding another doctor and explain everything that has gone on and you can ask all your questions but it may take time to get there. For now try to remind yourself it will be okay

Go find a retina specialist to get a second opinion!

I was just diagnosed with vitreomacular traction. My husband and I were rear ended about 6 weeks ago and I noticed I had lost my mid to long distance vision and was seeing crazy gray dots everywhere. Got an ocular CT scan and got the diagnosis. Was told to wait it out. My poor eyes are really strained - not sure if I should get a second opinion but I can sure sympathize with your frustration. I hope you get relief soon!
