Does anyone here have some lifehacks for people with double vision? (self.Blind)
submitted by Tanxini
Hello! I don't know if this is the right sub for asking this but I can't find one that would be better suited.

Basically what the title says, I have constant double vision because of strabismus and I also have trouble with depth perception.
I've had two surgeries to try and fix my vision but my doctors have told me that I will never have "normal" vision again.
Lately the double vision has gotten worse and my glasses barely help at all anymore. I don't know how long it will take for me to get medical help or if they can even do anything more to help me.

Reading is difficult and gives me a headache and I get really overwhelmed and exhausted just from walking outside from trying to get some useful information out everything my eyes take in.
Walking where there is traffic is also scary because I have a hard time knowing how far away from me/where things and peoole really are.

So I basically wonder if anyone here has experienced the same thing and if you have any advice for me on how to make things easier.

Thanks and have a good day!

Hi, it sounds as if using a screen reader for your computer would be a good choice. It basically reads out what you type, and it reads the text on the screen. At the moment I am using Voice Over on my phone, and I'm completely blind.
It also sounds as if using a cane would be bbeneficial for you. The cane will help you with the depth perseption issues you are having.

It may be worth trying a patch over your worse eye and see how that goes. I would consult a low vision specialist for more personalized recommendations. Strabismus is very unique to each person with it. You're always going to have trouble with depth perception because each eye is seeing something different. It may reduce your headaches if you cover one eye so your brain isn't trying to compensate and create depth perception when you don't physically have the equipment for it.

My dad said i will eventually have to get a patch. He thinks that could help with my driving at night. I wonder if that explains the headaches I've been getting recently...

I memorize patterns constantly. And believe it or not, I drive a car. Lol. Muscle memory for me helps.

Wait that's really interesting, I'm assuming you had to do a vision test as a part of your licensing? Do you have any issues driving?

I failed my vision test when I was sixteen. Whoop de doo. I have a lazy eye. The double vision didn't get discovered til last May and the lazy eye was discovered at 16. Hoo boy. It's a struggle to back out of anywhere. I can't tell how close or how far cars are. And driving at night? Forget it. I see two moons and two traffic lights during the night.
