No, I Just Have a Cold (self.Blind)
submitted by DrillInstructorJan
So it's just after xmas, and I have the traditional January cold. It's revolting. If you turned me upside down, you'd have to stick a bucket underneath to catch all the goo that drained out. I am a biohazard and the only potential upside is that I might be of interest to the biological weapons people. But here's the thing.

It's just a cold! I'll tank up on various patent remedies and go about my day! No, the fact that I have a cold is not connected to the fact I can't see. Although, now I come to think of it, I probably do touch about a thousand times more objects and surfaces than most people, so I am probably more at risk. But dear rest of the world, yes, blind people get minor illnesses just like everyone else. I am not more delicate than anyone else! I will get better in a few days like anyone!

Good grief.

Try getting some Vitamin C tablets, they reduce the duration of the cold for a lot of people. Sometimes when everyone around me have the cold. I eat 2 grams of vitamin C tablets daily and when i get infected the cold only lasts a 1-2 days and never breaks out fully. Vitamin C tablets are dirt cheap too.

Learned this trick from my dad who is MD, PhD internal medicine. He has used it the past 25 years. It always worked for him.

I'm sick too! But, I will admit, I'm a fucking baby when I have a cold. I'll milk that shit to the end.

It's not because I'm blind though. I'm just a weenie.

Touching more things also increases resistance against diseases and infections. So I would rather say "you got a cold despite you are blind"

I wish that were true. I wonder if anyone has done a study to see if blind people get minor illnesses more or less than anyone else. I suspect the answer will be more, because little kids get more than adults mainly because of their lack of aversion to gross things. They must get exposed more than grownups too, but they get sick more often. Or maybe it's because their immune systems aren't fully developed yet. I don't know. But maybe germ resistance is one of the blind superpowers, like the hearing and the ultra sensitive fingertips. Oh no, wait...

Hope you feel better soon!

Someone must have said something insulting to you. I hope they catch your cold! LOL!

Please do feel better soon. :-)

I have never had anyone react to me getting sick, just "here's some medicine son, deal with it and go to school"

Those are two very unusual conditions to conflate with one another. I'm really curious what you're experiencing!

I do hope you feel better soon, though!

A little background on your rant would help... Get well soon!

It's like other people have said. Oh, says someone, how does having a cold work for you? It's one of those things that throws you for a loop until you figure out what they're on about. How does having a cold work for me? How does it work for anyone! There's discomfort and gloop. But then you realise, oh hang on they're conflating it with... oh jesus. OK. It works like it does for everyone else.

Have you tried fasting? I used to get "seasonal colds" too. It also helps heal your body in general for a multitude of problems. Ever since I've switched to 18hr / 6hr intermittent fasting + 3 days fast twice a year I've never felt better, nor do I get my seasonal colds anymore!
