It may be that she has a fixed and secure way of getting to campus so its easier for her to get there.
I love Italian food!

quick questions: So, do you drive, could you drive your friend to and from the restaurant, or are you walking?

Does the restaurant have an online menu? If so, facebook it or email it to your friend, it will probably make them feel more independent than having to ask for your help at the restaurant with the menu. (I love Braille menues though they are rare)

My g/f is blind. She knows she needs help to go to places, isn't afraid to ask for it. Whenever she's going to her workplace and something happens she just asks people. And she has hardly ever had a bad experience. What I'm trying to say is that for her itś natural that people help her, if someone asks her out for coffee or something, she automatically assumes that that person will help her. She's not afraid at all to even suggest going to places knowing that it might place an extra "burden" on someone. Mind you she doesn't abuse it at all. It could be that your friend has this (misplaced?) sense of being a burden to people around her. I would suggest just to take her out and have fun, help her with the menu and have a good time. Let her know that you know that spending time with her automatically entails that you take care of her if she needs some help/guidance. And then add that it has to be without any thanks or gratitude from her. So close that subject quickly. You care for her, and that includes her disability, itś a package.

Obviously I cannot speak for all blind people. And I have certainly seen a lot of sighted people who do similar things. However, I am doing my best to not inconvenience my sighted friends. I’m doing my best to be considerate of their time and transportation abilities. And so I always appreciate when they let me off the hook for that sort of thing.
