What do yall do with your canes while at a club?(self.Blind)
submitted by RJHand
Just curious because putting it folded in my pocket is annoying and ways my pants down slightly while sticking out a bit and getting rather uncomfortable. Are there any other ways yall deal with this or do you just have to suffer through it lol. I feel like putting it down somewhere would be risky so I avoid that.

Wrap it in colourful strip lighting and use it as a very long glow stick.

Hi, what has worked best for me was to hand it to the bartender. They've never had a problem keeping my cane in front of me on the other side of the bar. Be careful when moving around, there may be drunk people that won't appriciate someone running against them.

I don't go to clubs, but when I am at events or family gatherings, I fold my cane, and I put it in my holster, on my belt.

I have a bag which I need for important meds so shove it in there

I keep it in my back pocket. I make sure I ware jeans with deap pockets so it doesn't bother me. I always have it out and use it when I'm not on the dance-floor. I sometimes tuck it under my shirt if I want to keep it safe from grabby people who might think it's a toy for them.

You will need to get orientation and mobility instruction, either from the Guide Dogs organisation in your state, Vision Australia or a local blindness service provider. You'll need to use NDIS or My Aged Care to fund your lessons. I recommend that as you have never had O&M lessons before, you should have a representative from the blindness organisation from which you intend to receive services present at your NDIS planning meeting to ensure that you receive appropriate funding.

Yeah, but some of the groups you mention are charities and will provide service even if you're not a ndis recipient. OP, call the guide dog people and ask for help, I did and it was the best thing I could've done. Good luck.

Are you sure about not needing NDIS/My Aged Care funding because I don't believe that to be the case?
serconian2 points3y ago
It is the case with GDV, certainly, and presumably in other states. I mean, sure the provider relies on funding, but it's not single stream funding. A charity like GDV has its own charitable funds. How do you think they operated before the ndis? And what would their donors think of their donations weren't being used?

I'll second the holster suggestion. Yes it disturbs the line of my clothes, no I don't care. I'd never but never give it to a bartender, jeez. Try to take it from me!
