Voiceover won't read MS Word documents (self.Blind)

I'm trying to use Microsoft Word on my MacBook running Catalina 10.15.2 with Office 365. I vaguely remember it working when I first installed it, and Outlook and Excel work fine, but now Voiceover won't read any text I type and says the document area is empty if I try to interact with it. Anybody know how to fix this?

I haven't seen this before. Have you tried opening the document in Textedit as a temporary workaround?

I fixed it. Something got messed up somewhere I guess. I tried to manually remove the apps but I lost patience trying to track down all the Microsoft files and ended up wiping the drive in recovery. It works now.
