If glasses make you insecure.. maybe contact lenses are an option? Please don't try those without advice from an eye specialist though: if used wrong, they can do a lot of damage.
For me it made a huge difference.

I've been thinking about them but do they make them with such high prescriptions? My glasses right now are -17. How much do your contact lenses cost!

They do make contact lenses in your prescription and I highly recommend looking into contacts! They make a world of difference. My left eye is -12.5 and my right eye is -14.5, and I'm absolutely useless when I wear my glasses. They make everything look really warped, tiny, and far away, and they allow for no peripheral vision. Contacts are great because they're closer to your eye, there's no way to peer over the top of them like with glasses, and nothing looks warped like it's in a fish bowl. Contacts will change your life! I'm not sure how much they cost, but they're totally worth it.

You can combine them with glasses. The glasses wouldn't need to be so thick and you'd see better if you chose not to use them.
On that point, tho. If glasses help you see better for the time you have, then use them. It's great that you had such a supportive experience in high school but you're going to be dealing with a lot more assholes, now. It's time to start not caring what is said about you. You are here to live your life. Own that. Forget the naysayers.
Can you get your tech shipped? Can you get replacements or better tech where you're at, now? Even a tablet with a good camera can make a difference in what you can see in class. I use my phone to snap the overhead or anything on the board when I need to. That way I can enlarge it and be involved in the class as it happens.

I think they might? Last time I was buying glasses, which was pretty recently, they suggested I consider contacts. I’m a -15, if I’m remembering correctly, so I’d assume a slightly higher prescription isn’t unreasonable at all. I’d suggest looking into it.

Honestly, I don't know. You could ask?
Contact lenses here cost about €6 per month (not sure whether that's 1 or 2 eyes though). That's for average prescription though, you might need a little more expensive..

You should be able to obtain assistive technology you need for your education through a vocational rehabilitation agency.
Please register with your college's Disability Services office. Part of the fees you pay go towards those services, so it is a waste of money for you to struggle if you can get help which you might be legally entitled to and will pay for regardless of whether you use it.
If your vision is inadequate and you are straining to see, you might need Orientation & Mobility Services. This is something that voc rehab can help with.
I also encourage you to join the National Federation of the Blind who have a division for college students, where you can get help from people in positions just like yours. They might even be able to connect with you a blind architect or artist so that you can find out now how blind people can work in these occupations.

I'm signed up for all of those except the national federation, but I'm planning to soon. It's honestly just more of a self confidence thing I'm struggling with.

That's very good. I think that the NFB will give you confidence—just have a look at some of the stories on this page: https://www.nfb.org/images/nfb/publications/books/kernel1/kernels.htm These are all successful blind people, so there's no reason why you can't also be successful.

You don't say where you go to school but I know that the Uni I work has an office of disability services and they may be able to assist you with tech and\\or note takers etc. I know you don't like wearing your glasses but I would really ask you to reconsider, you don't want to get hit by a car, trip or fall down stairs because you can't see an obstacle. I know you think people are looking at you strangely but honestly most people are so focused on themselves they aren't paying attention. Good luck to you!

I am sorry that you are having a frustrating time, I think you will only give yourself headaches without your glasses. I am totally blind, so I can only sympathize with part of your problems.
As to note taking there are a couple different methods, you could always ask that the lecture be recorded in audio, or you can take notes on a laptop, or you can continue the method you are already doing.
