A film about blind judoka (self.Blind)
submitted by reesjudoka
Hi all, I am making a documentary film about young, female blind judoka.

We are crowdfunding the project and expecting it to be a great film.

If I could ask all of you within these most special of communities, the visually impaired & judo communities, to read it for a moment and perhaps contribute even the smallest amount, you will be contributing to something that changes lives.

The film:

This is a film about hope, determination and courage. It’s about seeing a ray of light in an otherwise dark future, both metaphorically and physically.

With the issue of violence and abuse against women in India - particularly rural India - a prevalent one, this is the story of how a group of some of the most targeted are not just protecting themselves but building their confidence, self-esteem and a future for themselves they might not have otherwise had.

By learning the Olympic martial art of Judo, this group of women from central India have carved themselves a life away from abuse, fear and discrimination. And they all see Judo as the way in which they can build a better existence.

Some of them have developed their skills to represent their country at the highest level and some are just starting their journey after suffering abuse. They are all largely poor and without the opportunities much of the world takes for granted yet they have come together to learn how to take care of themselves and each other through the sport. They are united in hope. They are united in spirit and they all have one thing in common.

They are all blind.

Very cool. I was training for an amateur fight when I received my blindness diagnosis, and I was not allowed to get hit in the head again. Even though it turns out that that has nothing to do with my vision loss. I look forward to seeing this film. Well, do you cited people reading this that might seem confusing but that’s what we call it when we listen to a film. Make sure it has descriptive audio LOL and good luck on your film.

Hi, thanks Jynx, I really appreciate the feedback. I want to make audio a real feature in this film so it can be "seen" in the way you describe without losing anything from the experience.

The above poster was referring to audio description which is an additional audio track that describes scenes and characters' actions so that blind people can fully understand the plot of a movie.

Yes, I'm aware of that and of course, this will be available on release. What I also wanted to make clear was that, unlike many films, the audio will be somewhat more immersive than your average documentary as well. But I think good to pick me up on it, cheers and please help us make it happen!
