Fitness Smartwatch? (self.Blind)
submitted by Hotma3
Hello there, recently my dad (deafblind person) has gone a lot to the gym and he has been thinking about buying a smartwatch to help him track his activity.
He has asked my for help in order to decide which smartwatch to buy so I'm asking you.
Is there any of you that uses a smartwatch to keep track of your activity? And if so, which one do you use?
Thank you for your time. :)

I use the Fitbit Versa 2. It gets pretty bright. The icons are bright colors against a black background. Having Alexa on the watch is nice and there are plenty of large, bold clockfaces to choose from.

What is he wanting to track at the gym? Is this for cardio or weights?

The Apple Watch is definitely the most accessible smart watch.

I use a Garmin Forerunner 920XT. It has some benefits, like ability to track things like running (both indoor and outdoor), biking, and even swimming. The display is not great for people with low vision though since it's grey print on a black background. You can adjust the display to show one metric at a time if your Dad has any vision he uses, but there are no speaking options using the watch alone.
You can connect the watch to your phone and use an app like RunKeeper or Strava to announce live metrics at predetermined times, but I don't know if your Dad can utilize that.
My watch is set to vibrate every mile when I'm running, and every five miles when I'm biking, but it doesn't do anything else with vibrations to let you know time and pace to my knowledge.
High quality watch for varsatility, but the display could be better and the lack of audio output is a real minus for some people.

I should mention there are a lot of accessible apps to view the information after the workout, but live time information is limited.
