measuring cups shaped as the quantity they measure. (self.Blind)
submitted by Timedoutsob
There is a $1 with a picture of measuring cups that are the shape of the volume they measure.

Imagine a circle or pizza which is a tastier image. So the 1/4 cup is like a quater or one corner of a pizza/circle. The 1/2 cup is like half a pizzza. And the 1 cup size is obviously a normal circle.

I figured these may be much easier to use for blind people compared to regular measuring cups or perhaps those with braille.

thought more people might see it here than the front page.

Hope that is of interest.

And also Be My Eyes app is great in case you live in a cave and haven't heard about it yet. Love helping out always meet someone up to something fun like setting the washing machine program :-)

ps. Do you know it's a smiley face when you hear :-) on the text to speech tool?

I went to the website that sells these, and ironically, their tagline was "measure visually"

website's here, $1 but I don't think it's very accessible.

wow $24 for measuring cups. should be made out of gold.
Timedoutsob [OP] 2 points 3y ago
well I don't think blind people were the target demographic. More likely instagram users. :-)

I'm totally down for the measuring cups. Most people just use braille labels but I like this better.

My screen reader does in fact identify that as a smiley face.

clever stuff

I'd totally use these if they could be 3D printed. The price is... real steep for measuring cups, but more power to those that can buy them.
Timedoutsob [OP] 2 points 3y ago
you can easily 3d print these if you have a 3d printer. just a gimmick though really. you can probably just feel the sizes by touch anyway really.

If you do this, look into the filament and make sure it's ok to use around food

Yeah that occured to me too. Needs to be food safe right.

You came here to help. Don’t ruin it by assuming what someone should / can do.
Timedoutsob [OP] 5 points 3y ago
You're right I shouldn't assume what someone should/can do. I just figured that if I was blind i'd rather wing it and screw up my baking than spend $24 bucks on some measuring cups. :-D
annibear 2 points 3y ago
Use these all the time! My mom actually has them anyway--she's not blind but always found it more intuitive.
Timedoutsob [OP] 2 points 3y ago
they do look much more useful. I think you would save at least a second not having to guess which size you're taking out of the draw and checking the tiny writing on each one.

I hadn't heard about those before. Neat!

I have measuring cups shaped that way I think that most measuring cups come that way. Mine are roughly oval shaped and have Braille labels on them.

don't understand shaped what way?
