Browse aloud built into Web sites (self.Blind)
submitted by Josquius
Hi everyone. I am looking for some opinions from visually impaired people on the use of browse aloud in websites.

I've noticed a fair number of sites, particularly public sector ones, tend to have an option in their menu for browse aloud.

My assumption with this was that most blind people already had screen readers and such on their computer thus wouldn't have any need for websites to include them just so long as their code was properly set up in an accessible way.

What am I missing here? Is there any advantage to including browse aloud or similar in a Web site?

Hi. This feature is ideal for people who don’t use screen readers full time along with people who have disabilities that affect visual processing like Dyslexia. I hope that this helps.

I've never even heard of this, but it sounds like it would read out the page to you in a very linear way? I would not need that at all.

I'd probably only want it for browser based games where my normal screen reader couldn't do it properly
