Low Vision Aids for writing? Trouble filling out Forms. (self.Blind)
submitted by SugarPie89
Im legally blind with the acuity of my better eye being 20/250. Reading and filling out forms has become pretty much impossible for me throughout the years and I just wanted to know if anyone has been given a solution to this. I was at my Low vision center 2 days ago and I tried some microscopic glasses which are basically extremely high powered reading glasses. The problem with those is that you have to hold the paper extremely close to your face, way closer than I thought. For that reason they proved to be useless for writing which is really what I was hoping they could help me with. Has anyone been prescribed any special glasses that could help them write again? I should mention I have RP so I do have a lot of blind spots and my central vision is quite distorted which is why I have a lot of trouble with reading up close and writing. Anyting with detail has become hard are impossible to do/see.

I use an electronic magnifier that sits on whatever flat surface and over your paper. Its just for documents, mail, and the occasional label on misc. items but its the only way I can read and write outside of my computer monitor. It sounds like we have similar vision, so a screen magnifier might really help.

Like a lot of low vision aids they're way too expensive, but my local center for the blind gave me one after a while. (or maybe a used one online could be cheaper)

Thanks for answering :)
My doctor did say he wanted to look more into using video magnifiers with me next time. I just was not sure if they were the only real option left for me. But sounds like they will be my only hope for now. I was just a bit weary about having to use one in public, but I dont like having to drag my parents or siblings around to help me fill out paperwork at the doctors or other places.
