I wish my favorite show had audio description! (self.Blind)
submitted by SPN-hunter
So I am a huge fan of supernatural. I have been watching the show for a couple years now and with the end of the show nearing it has made me nostalgic. I want to buy the first five seasons to start. However I am super apprehensive about purchasing content that isn’t accessible. This isn’t really a question or anything. I guess it’s just me venting about lack of audio description!

Not sure why the down votes. It’s a great site/service.
Only discovered it a couple months back, and have found many gems I didn’t even know had AD to begin with.
Would honestly pay a monthly fee for what they provide.

You're getting downvoted because it is highly illegal.
Sudsy613 0 points 3y ago
First of all, you pathetic, sanctimonious, sad sack scumbag, I was not referring to myself being downvoted, but OP.
Clearly you have no clue how Reddit works.
Secondly, as far as legalities, you holier than thou, virtue signaling, Mr./Mrs.do-gooder, maybe if production houses would make the movies/tv shows easily globally accessible with AD, such a site wouldn’t be necessary, but until that happens, it is what it is.
Shut your disgusting word hole.

My objection to the Audio Vault and other sites like it is that it hosts content that is available with audio description in almost any country of the world. Netflix originals have AD everywhere Netflix is available, and most of the movies released recently with AD in the US also have AD on iTunes in most other countries. I agree with most people when they say that accessing content where AD is only available in certain countries isn't a black-and-white issue. It isn't my desire to try to tell people whether they're doing is right or wrong; everyone—including me—has their own moral code which dictates what they feel is right to download from that website; however, there has been a long-held misconception in the blind community that sharing movies and TV shows with the audio portion (including an AD track) and no video is not a criminal offence, but it most certainly is. Again, I repeat that I don't want to try and tell people that they shouldn't download shows from that website because they're not available with AD anywhere else, but only to remind people that doing so is illegal.

Lol perfect example here of the kind of people holding the blind community back

Try audiovault.net it’s completely free, you just have to sign up with a username and email. It has loads of movies and TV shows but it’s just the audio of the film or programme on the audio description without any picture.

Same here. I love watching Supernatural with my sisters and brothers, it’s one of those shows we’ve just bonded over. But the lack of audio description and the conclusion have made us all nostalgic and sad.

Hey, this isn’t quite the same as audio description, but are you aware of the excellent $1 available? Contrary to the name, these provide a great deal of visual information, which is very helpful, I have enjoyed many seasons of the show thanks to these efforts. The one downside is that they can occasionally take a few weeks to prepare, but they are fortunately all available for the backlog, which is where you want to start anyhow.

Oh my gosh!!! Thank you so much!!! It’s all hear. It would be so easy to make this audio described! This will have to do for now. Thanks!!!

I'm happy to help. As a bonus, the same sort of thing exists for other shows, such as the X-Files, West Wing, and Buffy/Angel/Firefly. It's surprisingly common, and if you Google "<show name> transcript," you can find a lot. I hope you enjoy them. Be aware that in a very few cases, the Supernatural transcript is more a description of the sounds on the show, rather than a full visual experience, but this is rare and generally only happened three or four times as I recall.

God, i wish everything had audio descriptions. Even something released last year doesn’t have audio descriptions.

Farscape, battlestar galactica, Firefly, heck, all the Whedon shows (buffy, angel, dollhouse)... So many things that should have AD that just don't.

I've still watched and enjoyed all these, but recently started noticing that as the number of things that are described increases, my willingness to watch things that haven't been described just decreases so much. And its kind of sad, because all the ones I mentioned above are wonderful and favorites to this day, even though they weren't described.

This all so much! I have the same problem. I will watch non-described, but I will often put non-described on the back burner, just because I go get so much more out of a show which is. I even have a little sight. I prefer the description to compliment what I'm watching.

Submit these to the wishlist at http://theadna.org. It's unlikely that they'll be described, but it's worth a shot.

I couldn’t agree more!!!

Ugh, I feel your pain! I do what I can to support shows when they're made accessible, movies too. But when they're not, well... Why support something I only get half of, at best? It's frustrating and disappointing. Even more depressing when you get a taste of description for a beloved series but can't find a way to get more of it (this happened SO MUCH when $1 was still around and I really wish I could get access to the descriptions they had but they're just...gone).

I'll take even a bad, kind of show ruining description over nothing. Though I do wish someone would go in and fix the description for HBO's Chernobyl; that show really needs a top quality description with what it is.

I was lucky enough to watch this show with my sighted gf. What was wrong with the AD on it?
razzretina 1 points 3y ago
The narrator is really bland, descriptions come in at awkward times, and important details are left out. I should give it another shot but it’s tough to go from the perfection of the show on its own to that.

This is probably pretty late and everyone might know already but there's AD for full series on Amazon Prime!
Wayward_Gadabout 1 points 3y ago
Hey! I hear you like Supernatural. I'm also a big fan. I'm sorry that you can't enjoy it as much as you would like to... I've noticed a lot of people frustrated about this in other shows and movies, and I personally think audio description should be a given by now. Anyways, if you aren't a part of the community already, you should join r/Supernatural!
SPN-hunter [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Thanks!!! I’m way ahead of you😊 I’m apart of the group! It’s such a good show!
Wayward_Gadabout 2 points 3y ago
Hahaha! I didn't even look at your username! that's great <3

I doubt Supernatural will get AD any time soon because there are 15 seasons or something already out.
