I've always felt alone being the only visual impaired student in my entire school district. They usually don't give me proper accommodations and I'm having a hard time. I'm glad I found this place, I didn't know there were so many others.

Most of my real-life friends vanished since my vision faded. I guess the burden of picking me up and transporting me to get-togethers was too much for them. They stopped visiting, then stopped calling. But online, my gamer friends have been very supportive. They call out things during raids and dungeons, they can read things when I am screen-sharing, and they reach out to me to socialize.
It took awhile to adjust to. I was extremely disappointed in the local friends. But in the end, it showed who really wants to invest in friendship versus those who were only friends from convenience/need. The online community has knocked it out of the park, and it's something I'm immensely grateful for.

This. I had vision for almost 50 years, and saw lots of disabled people. Even blind people. But now, I can’t see my compatriots. My husband will tell me if he sees a blind person, but it’s not common.
