What’s a good housewarming gift for a young person getting their first apartment away from home? (self.Blind)
submitted by lue42
She is very independent. Fluent braille reader.

Had thought of a google mini type thing but she is paranoid about her voice in the cloud or something like that.

Also though about Bluetooth trackers that beep on demand (like a tile pro) so she can find stuff like her purse or keys.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thank you everyone. We are getting some tile trackers, ove glove and a pot with strainer built into the lid and the handles lock to make it easy to pour.

Is there such a thing as a tile that beeps on demand? Oh man that would save me so much time.

I'd say get her glass Tupperware. I got some for Christmas and it has changed the game. Also a dish sorter/drainer.
Somebody mentioned a Firestick which is also an amazing gift for a blind or sighted person alike.

Yes, many of the tiles have two way communication. You can press a button on the tile and your phone will beep or you can use the app and make any of your tiles beep - so no more lost remotes, purse, keys, etc. Great things and happen to be on sale right now (at Best Buy in Canada at least)

You can also integrate it into google too so you can ask your google mini to make make the remote beep. Cool stuff

A Braille spice rack!

Spices are expensive and almost nobody remembers to buy them when they move out on their own. But some spices can make any meal nice!

She has a braille labeller and I make her labels all the time at work... so if she needs that I’ll just make them. Thanks for the suggestion!

How does this work? Is each shelf labeled or can you add more braille if you get a spice not noted on there?

Personally I used a Braille label maker to just put a sticker on the bottles as I got them

Also Tile. A pot with a built in strainer. Fire TV stick (but it is voice activated).

Ove’ Gloves. I got some from a in home instruction lady, and they actually do what they say they do. My guide dog, Lily, ate them, and I got a nasty burnbecause of the hole I didn’t notice. I replaced them, and now they hang out of her reach. I’ve used them camping to pick up live coals. And they wash up nicely. Burns are common household injuries for the blind, and these are amazing.

Do you have a link or can I find these in the store? Been looking for just this kind of thing
lue42 [OP] 2 points 3y ago
I just bought them off amazon right now but I bet Walmart and other home stores have them

I got mine off amazon, bc I can’t drive, but I’m sure they’re in regular stores.
