Student doing a business exercise needing your feedback :) (self.Blind)
submitted by remiUP
Hi,

I'm currently doing a week-long exercise on business and enterprise creation, and my team and I came up with a product that would enable blind and visually impaired people to regain some autonomy.

It would be a pair of glasses that have a camera so that if the person wearing them ever finds herself/himself in a situation where help is needed, a simple press of a button would make a video call with a family member or trusted person in order to receive help. This device would be for people who already have some autonomy but might benefit from a boost of confidence knowing they can get help quickly and without requiring someone to come in person.

Feel free to give us your opinion and your criticism!

I'll be in the comments to discuss with those who want to :)

What kinds of use cases would this be for? How would this benefit the consumer more than say, facetime on their phone? I can see the convenience of being hands free, but is that really going to be worth investing in a product that will probably be incredibly expensive (it's got to have bluetooth/wifi/data and a camera all made super super tiny to fit on glasses, but still be good quality to be reliable and have good picture quality) , when they already have this functionality (plus aira/seeing AI/Be my eyes) already on a device they own?

The idea behind it is to provide people that are maybe less tech savvy a way to get help quickly and easily. I don't really know if it would be worth it to invest in an object dedicated to it though, we share your concerns.
Thanks for the comment :)

Check out www.aira.io and Be My Eyes.

It might sound rude, but have you done some research before creating this gadget? I don't know how it would be more useful than Be My Eyes or Aria. Like U can have the same results opening BME, tapping 3 or 4 times and having a sighted person to help me.

Yes we've done quite a bit of research. We thought that a device dedicated to this help would be suiting for older people who can't/dont want to have to use a smartphone.
I do agree that it's maybe not that useful, to be honest we didn't have any good ideas for our fake startup (as I said, this is for an assignment).
Thanks for the input though

Considering that their are already several businesses pursuing this idea, I definitely wouldn't say it isn't useful, just already done.
Finding out a way to make the product A. Cheaper B. Not require a smartphone to be paired at all times C. Improve battery life and waterproofing and or D. Make them look less stupid... Now those are still open approaches for the most part.
