Hiring someone to clean your house? (self.Blind)
submitted by Bachelor-pad-72
Hello everyone, hope you’re having a beautiful day
I have a question about paying someone to clean your house and how you would verify the cleanliness of the area
I am under the impression that I clean my place quite well and have kept good care of my places in the past but was told several times about the marks and things on the wall and small stains in harder to reach areas.
Just an open question, what would you do to verify that your place in fact has been cleaned.
Does anyone use a cleaning service independently without having a sighted person verify for them that the place is quite clean
I would like to hire a company for a one time thorough cleaning but I have constantly put it off as I have no way to directly verify the service I am paying for?

My father has hired a maid many times (heS blind like me and my brothers), and we have always enjoyed the service we got. We usually invite someone to our house and they complement on how clean the place is which is a good marker for us. As long as the marble floor, counter, and walls are clean that's good for us. The rest we do ourselves and we usually only hire a maid before a large event so...

Personally I usually do all of the cleaning myself. However if I am going to have someone clean for me, it’s going to be someone I trust like a family member or close friend. Not only would I worry about the cleanliness not being done very well, but I would seriously be concerned about my things being stolen. Unfortunately human beings can be assholes and I don’t trust anyone these days.

We have a cleaner once a week but I do live with a sighted person and yes we have had to ask for someone else on a couple of occasions. You would not want to hire a cleaner without having someone verify their work. I guess you can do silly things like leave trash around deliberately to see if they tidy it up but you can only verify certain things that way. I would not do it without someone you trust to look at what they're doing.

Also I don't want to seem like I'm bragging, we're not that posh, I just don't feel comfortable with the fact that cleaning up is one of the things I can't do very well, and I probably make more mess than most, and I don't want to make it all his problem.

Maybe vet the company and cleaner before they come?

You are right, I will do that. Get a few different opinions/reviews. Thank you
