research inquiry on tech-assisted glasses for the blind (self.Blind)
submitted by melisheth
I am working on a business proposal for glasses to help the blind. I would love to hear from people who have used other glasses like the OrCam and what their thoughts are on it. Our glasses are different because they are more focused on obstacle avoidance and will tell the person when something is approaching them or is around them. what would you like to see in this product and how much would you being willing to pay for this product. would you prefer bluetooth/headphones or bone conduction audio?

Frankly, I don't want anything my Iphone can do way better. Orcam? Far, far too expensive when All I have to do is pay a small small fee at most, and get free at least. I don't have experience with anything too intense, so I don't know what to say about obsticle detection and the like. But I HAVE used the Esight glasses. I have perriferal vision in one eye, and those glasses shine the image into your eye like a projector. That didn't work for me at all. Honestly, here's what I'd love. Give me a single lens (or a double one since probably most people would prefer that. Put a camera on the outside of the lens itself, and have the image it sees on an actual display on a small screen on the inside of the glasses. Allow me to zoom in and out and change contrast and the like with controls on the frame, rather than a big device I have to lug around. I guess basically I want an HD image I can put up to my near-sighted eye and not have to hold it there. Right now I could attach my Iphone to my face, and see through it by holding it up to my face. I want that functionality, but hands free and much smaller. And yes, I know that would be a safety concern, so it would be nice to be able to lift it a little to see regularly if necessary. I hope in all there's sense in my rambling.
