I’m a college student trying to do a interactive design project concerning how do blind people entertain themselves, thank you so much for giving me ideas. (self.Blind)

So sorry for bothering you guys! But I’m really curious about how your community entertain yourselves in your free time, and I will try to design a set of tools to help you recreate more freely and conveniently. And what specific activities you guys wish you can do or can be improved while you do with people around you?

I do a lot of things to keep myself entertained. I’m legally blind, not completely blind, and can read some text if it’s large enough and with enough contrast. I was not born visually impaired so my experience is much different than someone who is born completely blind or his head visual impairment their entire life. Things I do to keep myself entertained art

Listen to audiobooks
Listen to YouTube videos

Listen to professional sports teams and drink when our team loses and drink when our team wins.

Trying to figure out why sighted people think all blind people can speak American Sign Language
Chat using a group chat feature like WhatsApp to talk to other blind friends

That’s just what I can think of in the future minutes I’ve been pondering. I think blind people do the same things as sighted people, with a few exceptions. For example, my husband offered to take me to the gun range for Valentine’s Day parentheses he had gone so this was a very sweet gesture). Now, I can still shoot, but I choose not to because it’s not something I would ever do in real life again for fear of harming someone accidentally, rather than on purpose.

I think you for you to get a better response from this community you need to be more specific in the activities that you perceive that we need assistance with. Then we can tell you if we do. For example, there’s been a blind man who climbed Mount Everest. I would never do that, even if I were fully cited, because the thought of it chills me to the bone, pun intended. I have seen or heard videos of blind people riding bikes, skateboards, running a marathon, doing pretty much everything a sighted person can do.

Good luck with your endeavor!

Thanks a lot! I first got this idea when I was playing mahjong. When I try to figure out what the tile was with only the touch of my fingertip, I felt a lot like braille. But then I thought, even with the ability to know every tile with their touching, it’s still hard for a blind people to play a fascinating but complex game. So I want to dig deep into how blind people entertain and help them to entertain better.

That’s funny people think blind people know ASL lol.

My comment would pretty be EXACTLY the same as the first two paragraphs except swap out knitting/crochet for embroidery.

OP you're not bothering me! Could you expand on the criteria of the project? Is it a UX course or graphic design or something else? I'm not exactly sure what problem you're trying to solve.

It’s mainly a UX design. Maybe a product like a board game that’s very easy for the blind to play with friends and families. Or maybe a facility like a platform for blind people to feel the beauty of art like paintings or historical relics like Chinese jade seal. I think nowadays people are making so many facilities aiming to make lives of the blind community to be more and more convenient. But less people realizes that they are overdoing it and the blind community is a proud group now that can live with no ones help. I think what this crowd need is someone to create ways for them to have fun, to truly enjoy life!

I'm still interested, but also still a bit unclear as to what you are trying to produce.

I have experience in the art field if you have questions I could probably help you with that?
