Portable USB memory stick player (self.Blind)
submitted by 96tacos
Not sure if this is the right place to post so apologies.. my 93 year old grandma is in a care home + is almost blind and deaf. She is unable to have visitors due to coronavirus and the company/charity (Calibre) that supplies her USB sticks for her portable player have closed due to the virus leaving her with absolutely nothing to do all day as she can't see the TV due to vision or hardly hear but is okay with her portable player.

Does anyone know of any other charities that are still supplying these type of USB audio books?

(iPad, iPod, kindle, amazon echo out of the question unfortunately due to disabilities)

Check out the Book Port Plus and Victor Reader Stream. You can download books from BookShare, NLS, and free open source books from Gutenberg.

Where do the books that she puts on the USBs come from?

From a charity called calibre they get sent to the care home

Sorry about the misunderstanding.

See if she can join the RNIB library. I think they have more books, but I couldn't find anything on their website about whether they're still sending out books now. I'd suggest giving them a call, and if they're not sending out books, depending on how the Calibre player works, you might be able to download books and put them on USBs for her. I don't know how the Calibre player works to know if this is a possible option because I'm not from the UK.
