Establishing connections (self.Blind)
submitted by greens-s
Hello everyone, I work as a Career Specialist at a nonprofit teaching job readiness skills to individuals who are blind or visually impaired. My clients have various skill sets and come from different backgrounds. Part of the program is exploring careers. This includes conducting informational interviews with professionals in their chosen interest field to find out more about the essential job functions and accommodations. I’m looking for professionals who are interested in giving back some of their time to help individuals get back into the workforce. If you are interested, please feel free to send me a private message or comment below with your job/occupation and I can answer any additional questions you may have. Thank you all in advanced!

People in the group are from all over the world. Could you state which non-profit you represent and where you are located?

Hi! Yes, precisely the reason I decided to post on this group. There’s individuals who are blind and visually impaired who have been successful in their careers all over the world. I understand that from a legal accommodation aspect it will change, but I’m more focused on connecting my client when someone who’s been doing that job.

I'm not blind but live with a visually impaired person. As a professional recruiter, what is most helpful would be making connections directly with local companies in your area. Going through recruiting or HR departments means you can get access to wider variety of hiring managers within a company.

At this time, many recruiters probably have time to handle other projects since hiring has slowed!

Edit: I read your previous post and realize you would like to connect with blind or visually impaired professionals. Could you still specify your location? That can mean a lot for what sorts of jobs tend to be in your area and what sort of legal accomodations are required.

Hi! We do have a coordinator who has established connections with companies and advocate for Blind or visually impaired employees. My main goal is to connect my clients with individuals who have expressed interest in conducting an informational interview about their occupations. My clients have all sorts of different job goals. Currently I have some clients interested in HR, Physical Therapy, Teaching, but there are many other opportunities available. Hope this helps!
