How do you deal with your disability on a day to day basis??? My vision is getting worse, I feel like so quickly, and I was just diagnosed with my disease in October... I don't know what to do or how to feel and the people who are closest to me aren't exactly supportive...

As others have said, take it day by day. Be kind and congratulate yourself on everything, even the smallest thing. Try and get involved with services and support groups, blind you tubers and other social media people

Literally take it day by day. Learn as much as you can with what you have. Start mentally preparing for vision to get worst. You will go through the 7!stages of anger: These seven stages include shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, testing, and acceptance. This will be a process you will go through. Then after you reach near the acceptance stage, you should start adapting and planning your life with these major life event change. Will you learn a new skill? Will you contact the kind services for help? Will you keep working and saving? Apply for disability, if on disability; how will you manage rent and other life necessities. Will you be able to have a career and not need disability. It’s a lot to think about and digest.

Listen, as someone who has been visually impaired my whole life, I completely understand struggling with day to day feelings and situations. You have an entire community behind you for support including me 🧡 Here are a few strategies.
1. If you live in Canada like me, contact your local CNIB and they will help you set up resources and mobility training so you can get around independently! (Othereise, look online for your country's equivalent) 2. Use. Your. Phone. It's a life saver!! Take pics of menus and signs with it :D 3. If you have a light sensitivity then try different kinds of sunglasses. For me, I cant use grey tinted ones only Amber ones! 4. Ask for help! Never be afraid to seek support from others, it's a hard lesson to learn but worth it. 5. Use google maps, it will reliably get you where you need to go.
Contact me if you ever need further support or advice on this stuff, been doing it my whole life and happy to help! @lexydalcourt@gmail.com
The bottom line is there is no shame in being blind. We are a proud group that overcomes adversity everyday. You'll get through this, sight doesnt mean happiness, just a different path 😇😊

I just think that it’s good that I am blind instead of having something that could kill me. Your life will change, but it might not necessarily be worse. U can still use ur phone, u can still talk with people, u can get around etc. I’m not saying that it won’t suck, but life goes on, and you’ll still have great opportunities. Get involved with the blind community. I was hesitant to be involved at first. I just thought blind people were weird, and some of them are, but you’ll find people u will connect with. U can also go to therapy if u need to talk things over with. Just remember you’ll be just fine. I wish u luck, and feel free to pm me if u want
