Any blind business owners here? (self.Blind)
submitted by 4247420
Are there any blind business owners here? I'm asking because I'm getting nervous every step I get closer to starting my own business. Are their any tips I should know? Are there any advice or need to know or think about?? I'm getting super nervous. And looking for inspiration.

I ran a couple of 'em - had my own consulting business for 14 years and co-owned a local PC repair shop for 7 years.

My advice? Make enough money to pay someone else to do the accounting. :P

But seriously, when you get to the point that you can afford that service, it's totally worth it.

Talk to your local department for the blind/vocational rehab/whoever does that in your state/region. Mine had business grants available for start-up costs and assistive tech, etc.

Similarly, find a local organization that helps small businesses (most areas have them) and reach out to them for all of the help with the initial paperwork and business filings.

Honestly the hardest thing for me was just dealing with all the government paperwork. Im 20/400 so I had to scan everything and read it on a computer. Then in person signing things like at the bank I just say "hey im blind youre going to have to put your finger where I need to sign." Everyone is pretty cool about it.

Whats your buisness?

I'm near totally blind. Light and shadow perception. And paperwork worries me. As I cant read braille due to nerve disorder so everything has to be read out.

I've invented a new way of harnessing energy that is completely environmentally friendly small, compact and wont destroy the planet and produces little heat and has no toxicity. It runs on it's own components. So it has no need for fuel input. And had no pollution. It's still being tested on if it's more efficient or equal as fuel based energy currently out there. And I think if I'm successful i can get funds to make it small enough to run electric cars that never need charging.

Sweet! you figured out cold fusion! j/k

Im sure theirs a way to scan documents then use JAWS or NVDA to read them.

Lol. Cold fusion is beyond our capability creatively, let alone technologically too advanced lol. But there is a simpler way. Well, I cant say that yet. The tests will confirm if it works better or the same as normal energy methods.

No heat is needed. In energy conversion they heat water using gas, coal or nuclear heat. They makes water into steam. The steam rises and turns turbines which spin a magnet in a coil. My generator produces no heat or little heat. Instead of big plants polluting my invention can reduce the size dramatically. More environmentally friendly. No by products, no fuel is needed and it is much much more safer than using energy from nuclear products. The only thing I'm still waiting on is will it perform equally the same as normal energy outputs, or better. If it doesnt I might still have a business selling my invention similar to wind or solar panels.

Aspiring business owner. I didn’t choose a good time to decide to start a business so I’m waiting until the immediate COVID crisis is over.

Perpetual motion. I've figured it out. This is as far as I can go in terms of details. All I can say is I've figured out a way to spin the turbines at speed and pressure using gravity to keep the turbines spinning on their own indefinitely.

I am one of the directors of a musicians agency but I don't really get very involved in the admin. I am just surgically attached to my phone most of the time. I guess it depends what you're intending to do.
