Hey there, Im new here! I just started using voiceover on my phone, as I have found myself struggling to read the text. Within less than an hour, my phone had lost so much power. Has anyone else had this problem?
I want to keep using my current phone, as i cannot afford a different one, however with this battery issue i dont know. My phone is no longer usable otherwise, so im hoping that this is just a bug with apple?

The biggest drain on the phone is the battery used from the screen. Once you get good at VoiceOver you can use it with the screen curtain on (three finger triple tap) which will save a lot of battery. I would suggest turning VoiceOver on and off as needed until then. You can set the accessibility shortcut to tap your home button or power button three times to turn VoiceOver on and off fast, which is nice.

It certainly take some getting used to!

funny story about screen curtain. When we were in training for VoiceOver, someone did something that somehow disabled the voice and the screen, but VoiceOver was still working (we could hear the noises still). It turns out, if you three finger triple tap, you activate screen curtain... but if you then three finger double tap, you disable the voice in VoiceOver. It took even the tech trainer a while to figure out what happened.

Ha yeah. I had no idea what screen curtain was when I first started out. One of my students turned it on by accident and I could NOT figure out how to fix it. I thought we broke the whole iPad. Same thing with starting and stopping music with magic tap.
Now my biggest problem is forgetting when I’m on the phone with someone, trying to use magic tap for something else, and hanging up on them, or talking a client through turning their speech back on and having them hang up by accident. Fun times.

I noticed a huge unexplained battery drain on iOS 13.4 on my iPhone SE that stopped happening after updating to iOS 13.4.1.

Where are you when this happens?
I find usually if I'm working and I go into the middle of the big city, the battery drains way faster than it does if I'm at home. There are a lot of reasons why this might be, but I know they can turn up the radio power if they are having trouble contacting a cell tower, and that consumes a lot of power if you go on the subway or go in big buildings, or whatever.
Of course nobody's doing much traveling around at the moment but if you're hanging out in a basement or something, that might be an issue.

Usually I’m at home in my room.

I can't say how my iPhone is without voiceover as far as battery life, as I can't use it without voiceover running. With that said, I do get close to two days if I use the phone lightly, about a day if I use it normally, and maybe four hours or so if I'm doing things like playing games or watching netflix or youtube on it.
KillerLag1 points3y ago
If you are using VoiceOver exclusively, why not turn off the screen? That eats up a lot of power.

I didn’t know how lol. I just learned. I’m new to it

hi, a simple Youtube search will give you recommendations on what to turn off to save battery. My recommendation is to check the battery status in settings. It'll tell you the condition of the battery. What phone do you have? A couple of years Apple was discovered using sub-par batteries and they sold batteries for 50 bucks to replace the batteries that were not lasting.

I have an Iphone 7 128gb. im pretty sure the battery isnt really good. i dont know, im just waiting to hear back from apple support

Hi, go to settings, battery, and then battery health. For example my max performance level is at 79 and the recommendation it gives me is to Important Battery Message, Your battery’s health is significantly degraded. An Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace the battery to restore full performance and capacity.. To save money in not having to purchase a new phone or have Apple change the battery, I'm purchasing an external battery and looking into buying a case that has a battery on it.
GoingBlindRP0163 [OP]1 points3y ago
I should do that. Last I checked my phone has a max battery health of 76%. So I might try and get one!

I don't find that VoiceOver drains the battery very quickly. Are you employing battery-saving tips like not having apps refreshing in the background?
GoingBlindRP0163 [OP]2 points3y ago
I have battery saver on. i dont know much of anything about the settings on this phone lol.
