Hello everyone my name is David. I know that I will loose my sight fully and I have gone blind in my left eye and can only see outlines with minor details but noticing that I am starting to loose that. And I now gave a guide dog I love her to bits and she does really help however I’d like to know ways that people dealt with it. Any advice?

Go to a rehab training center. I'm parcial to LCB and CCB because they have high expectations for people training.

These are the Louisiana Center for the Blind and the Colorado Center for the Blind. There's also BLIND, Inc in Minnesota. You don't need to be a resident of these states to train at these centers.

As your sight fades you will notice as a daily incremental thing that your hearing and other senses will get better and start to take up more of the brain as your brain shifts from wanting to ignore the grey of blindness to the sounds of the world.
Train your ears now while you still have some sight to help you correct yourself, and pay attention to audio and echolocation etc first. Practice with rooms you know well, tap your toes in your hopefully hard heel shoes in the direction you want the echo to be, and then LISTEN to the response.
Also, watch - listen - to the Movie "Ray" - the one about Ray Charles - while you can still see. That movie got a LOT of "blind tricks" right.

Just wanted to follow up. Firstly I did not think I’d get past 5 upvotes so thank you for that. I wanted to add I live In the uk so the rehab centres here are sadly closing down due to funds I know 30 years ago they had some amazing ones as my dad went to one as he lost his eye.
Would also like to say thank you for advice and to anyone else reading this know that I know mentally it can be tough but you are Never alone.

One thing I’d like to mention is if you haven’t been already, then you’ll also learn the value of patience. In yourself and in others and from others. This was hard for me to get through as I was the type of person that used to consider myself incredibly self reliant but I’ve had to be a lot more patient with everything around me in order for me to achieve anything. Additionally, The value of asking for help. This will be incredibly valuable to you in order to help build a strong support system. You’ll find people that you can trust and that will in turn make life better overall.

Honesty once you start accepting your fate it makes it easier to craft your future. It really is like that. I no longer think about it or worry no more. I'm just grateful it was my eyes fading not my mind. My sight goes but my insights continue to grow. Taking it day by day. Do the things you enjoy.

I'm in a pretty similar boat but not the same ticket. I'm also losing my sight gradually, macular degeneration/ myopia. It's a shit deal but at least there are resources available.
