How do i know when to get a new cane? (self.Blind)

I get a new one when the elastic inside (if it’s a folding cane) starts to feel loose.

My cane is 63 inches long. I measure my canes to my lips, so you could do the same. Check what you feel comfortable with; an inch less or more make a huge difference in the feel of the cane.

See now that's how I like mine, extra long. A lot of people only go to the notch of the collarbone which is way, way too short, I can't do anything with that. Have you ever had anyone tell you that lips is way too long? I have and it worries me when I'm advising other people, as I do sometimes.

I am also considering getting a taller cane mainly because I miss walking fast. Can I ask a few questions? It’s ok if you don’t feel up to it!

Well, I'm not a trained O and M person, so don't take me too seriously. I could be totally wrong about everything and I recently posted about a horrible experience I had walking into the edge of a sign board that left a permanent mark. So I could be horribly dangerous. With that in mind sure!
I don't get to walk as fast as I'd like, even when I really know the route. Longer cane helps but don't expect miracles. I walk fast enough to scare my mother, put it that way.

Yesterday I came to visit family. When I got on the van I found my 63 inch cane broken in two... I went back in the house for a spare and I ended up with a 69 inch cane. Its as tall as me, and I'm doing well because I have wide open areas where to walkbe measuring to my lips gives me the length to reach forward and have time to react when I find obstacles.

If you're still growing, your instructor might let you know when you need a new one. Otherwise, get one when it starts to break or look a bit scratched and worn-out.
