Hey folks, I'm legally blind, but I'm not a lurker or anything; I say this because I don't know the intricacies of this community, so before anyone blows me to hell and back, just let me know why you're doing it.
Now that I think about it... this might be the ...second? time I've seen this subreddit.
Anyway I just wanted to give some advice for you PCMR low vision friends.
Ok, so check it out: the Windows 10 magnifier (that's a very usable & free tool by the way) doesn't work with a multi-monitor system. Ok, You *can* use the lens option, but I mean, come one, we aren't barbarians. So, the typical full screen zoom won't work. *You see,* the zoom FOV is relative to the mouse, your dual, triple or god-level monitor set up will just cause the FOV to move across the monitors.
So what's a blind man to do!?
Now, there is actually a commercial option, but let's not blow our 1,200 Trump bucks on a predatory, 1,100 dollar program that's probably mediocre at best. I'm talking about SuperNova, of course.
Ok, so here's what you do: you go to the sysinternals website & download zoomit.
Here is the link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/zoomit
Download that, and in the configuration dialogue box disable the key binds for zoom toggle, draw and break. Leave what ever key combo you want for LiveZoom tab, for me, I left it at ALT & 1. It hides away on the tray.
Now, there is an issue with the task bar and start menu, but it's a free, usable solution, admittedly, for a rather niche issue. I mean, how many low vision folks are there that use their computer *so much* they feel like they need a second or third monitor? Hell, I used to be a CS major and I built my own computer (got that 2080 SUPER baby!) *but* I'm not just saying this to prop myself up. It's also an issue within itself, that is, there are so few of us, that simple solutions for everyday solutions, don't really exist for the PCMR low vision people.
You can probably tell by my demeanor that I aint ganna buy ZoomText, SuperNova or JAWS anytime soon (hell, that stuff doesn't work on Linux anyway!) and don't put cracking or reverse engineering the old 32bit binaries, CF's eloquence past me... just saying.
So, I found a novel solution to a novel problem, and I want to share it.
Now then, where might this be useful, you might ask. Well, let's say you have to share a screen with a fully sighted user at work, or you have Netflex on one monitor and Eclipse on the other. Obviously, you don't want the magnifier on Netflx, in this case, activate zoomit.
