I built a SaaS Business platform that I've been keen on from the get go to put in the initial things to make it accessible for anyone, regardless of their physical state to use.
However, I have no idea if what's in place currently is done or even done well. I've avoided making custom controls outside of typical browser HTML elements due to not understanding the accessibility nuances necessary to make them right.
Is it a matter of me just using this browser extension called WAVE and having all issues resolved? Do I use the Voice Over feature in OSX to see how it would work? I probably also need to manage the tab selections better as well. I know developers throw around a11y as a term, but it's another thing to walk the walk - so to speak.
Finally, this may be outside of the scope of this group, but if I was interested in government agencies to use this system, do I need to have my platform 'certified' for compliance using a professional service?
Thanks!
