Do you know any games you can do online with blind friends? (self.Blind)
submitted by EditPiaf
Hi all,

Since the lockdown me and my friends (all students, aged 19-25) have been playing online games with the help of screenshare and discord. We play games like Cards against Humanity and Jackbox games. However, one of our friends is blind, so she can only listen right now. Do you guys know any games like the ones I mentioned that are also accessible for blind people?

RS Games is an online platform with audio-based card and board games. Unfortunately, it's not intended for sighted people to play. You could try the web client, but you probably won't like it.

You can check out QuentinC's playroom. It's a platform for card and board games, and I know the client is accessible for sighted people too.

$1

Ok, these aren't "online games" but they're games you could play over chat:

You could do a tabletop RPG over voice chat if that seems like something your group might be into. All she'd need for that is an accessible dice rolling app.

You could do some Jeopardy-style trivia where one of you reads the questions aloud.

Similarly, you could a "name that tune" or movie quote trivia type of game.

A story-telling game like $1.

Here is an accessible version of cAH https://allbad.cards

She can use the screen reader on her phone or on the computer.
Here is an online version ofSpyfall https://spyfall.adrianocola.com/

I also have a link for a card game called Coup but I will need to get to my computer. Let me know if you want the link.

I can't spell the name of the client well lol but theres one called quentincy playroom with several card / board games. No cch though but theres still a variety. The sight in question is qcsalon.net I believe. Googling either should bring it up.
Also, some of the jackbox games are moderately accessible. I used to play the trivia ones with people, were a few unlabeled buttons but the guy talking in the game read out the answers to choose from so you just need to scroll across with him and ignore voiceover's shouts of button button button.
That rap one was quite accessible too. Rap battles or whatever, I believe thats the most accessible one I've tried. That drawing one everyone loves isn't though, for obvious reasons.
Hth.

I was going to also suggest the quentinC playroom and pretend you're xyz, but since people have already done so i'll just add that she can play the jackbox games with you. I regularly play them with a group of blind friends. The web browser part of the games where you actually participate in the games works really well with screen reading software on both phones and computer. Obviously, not all the games are playable - like any of the ones that involve drawing, but things like you don't know jack, lie swatter, fibbage, quiplash, bracketeering trivia murder party for the most part, they're all playable. You may sometimes want to fill in some missing information that isn't displayed on the page or spoken by the host, like when the scoreboards pop up, but other than that she should be able to join you and have fun.

Murder party's playable? Damn missed out on that one last semester while actually at college lol. Ah well will have to remember that next fall.

Thanks! According to my friend, Jackbox games go too fast, so she does not have enough time to respond to questions or to pick options. Or is it possible to disable/slow down the timer?
pitermach 2 points 3y ago
Personally, I was able to keep up relatively well, though some questions to go by somewhat quickly so I can see how some people might have difficulties. In some of the later games, I think party pack 2 or 3 onward in the options menu for the games there is an option to extend the timers. I don't remember what it's called, might be just extended timers or streaming mode because it's designed to be used by people playing jackbox with viewers on twitch and places like that. Also, iirc the trivia murder party in the very latest party pack has an option to disable drawing questions so that might be something else useful if you want to play that particular game.

I can't believe how many people know about the quentinCPlayroom. That's amazing! There are 2 more game clients which are similar. The 1 is called rs games and the other 1 which is used by the russians is called ontoys.
