Offering my help to those who need it. (self.Blind)
submitted by pokersnek
Hi everyone.

I am a COMS, aka an O&M instructor. I have my masters degree in Orientation and Mobility and went through the coursework to be a teacher as well (but decided to drop it).

I would like to offer my assistance in whatever virtual way I can. I know that the pandemic is messing with everyone right now and in person lessons are not really happening. So, if you have an issue or problem you are trying to solve and need someone to bounce ideas off of, please message me. We can work by messaging, calls, text, email, FaceTime, or whatever you like. I won’t be asking for anything in exchange.

I really want to take full advantage of any advice you can give me, in a day or two. I am seeing the specialist tomorrow to hopefully either get something done about my eyes or get declared legally blind. Once I get a for sure clearance from the, I want to start adjusting the correct way.

That’s cool. Hit me up whenever. This isn’t a limited time offer or anything.

That's really nice of you to offer! One thing I've noticed during this disaster is that even though there is pretty much constant coverage and chatter on various news networks etc, disabled people, and blind people especially, are just being ignored. I mean it's nothing new but it's still frustrating. (Yes, I have read some articles online but I'm referring to television and radio.)

Oh yeah. Main stream media is terrible at recognizing people with disabilities and covering things that affect them.

I don't understand exactly what you're offering

Consultation. We can talk through a challenge you’re having. Like adapting to the whole COVID situation when you have to go out of your home. Or even something in your home. I can’t be there in person, but I can try to give you ideas and see what might work.
