Blind and low vision Magic: the Gathering players, or collectible card game players in general, how are you adjusting to COVID-19? (self.Blind)
submitted by True-Clue
Do you have a screen reader that can recognize cards like in MTG: Arena or Legends of Runeterra? Do you imprint braille on your sleeves and still just play physically? I'd love some insight on what my options are.

Wizards of the Coast and Riot don't seem to be interested in keeping their card game accessible to blind players. It's a shame because the cards all have very distinct sounds and consistent text for at least the titles to be read. with a screen reader. I would love for NVDA to work with it.

I have low vision and play on Cockatrice and you can upload any deck you want and play with friends for free. I'm not sure how well it works for reading text to audio but for low vision, it zooms in big and works great.

I've adapted just fine. I play MTG on the Play EDH Discord. People there are chill and friendly.

Is this doable for a fully blind person?

Arena bores the hell out of me because it is Standard format, primarily. I can use Microsoft's Magnifier for that when I have trouble seeing something as ZoomText tends to often be utter crap for games in my opinion.

I've considered going back to using Cockatrice for playing Magic online with others, because I can better able play and communicate with people I know or are willing to take time with me having to zoom in on things all the time.

Otherwise, I greatly prefer to play physically with use of primarily a pocket magnifier glass I have or using the iPhone's digital magnifier.

I own a Ruby XL, but use it more for common needs around house given how it's a pain in the butt to remember how to turn off the lights ( they really need a toggle switch for that. ) on it which can bother others. I also have a headset magnifier, but apparently people can see my cards' reflection on that.. So... Nooope.
