What cane brand do you prefer if you prefer something that isn’t widely used. Such as nfb, ambutech, or revolution canes. (self.Blind)

So some reply got me curious so for canes, does anyone else prefer something else besides ambutech, nfb, or revolution canes? Something a bit more obscure what is it? I may be in the market to try some out. Please tell.

Canes from companies like Ambutech are used by most people for one reason—they are durable. If you buy a cane from a manufacturer that almost no-one uses, it might break easily or not be made well. You don't want your cane to snap when you're out and alone.

I didn’t realise there were different brands of cane. Mine is Brevita. I don’t know if they’re exclusively Australian but they’re the brand I was given when I did my cane training with Guide Dogs a few years ago.

At least here there are a handful, nfb ambutech, and then revolution is the most common. But there’s more the iowa or commander technologies ones and then there’s the d canes.
KillerLag 3 points 3y ago
Up here in Canada, the vast majority are Ambutech. We have a few NFB ones, but fairly rare.
siriuslylupin6 [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Ah, really? Interesting I guess I am not surprised being that they’re from up there. But yeah, the nfb ones are interesting.

At the moment I use a D Cane. As a backup, I have an NFB cane; their construct is similar, but I prefer the materials used on the D Cane.
I like the NFB's telescoping cane, but they break often; I use them in night clubs or parties.

Second $1

They're sturdier than NFB canes and still very light, which I think is important. Apparently they're working on a collapsable model, but this seems to be delayed since the website says end of 2019.

Not sure if they're shipping now, but I know the NFB Independence Market is currently closed.

do the d canes have a telescopic model like NFB?

I had the chrispark designs NFB folding cane but one of the joints broke off at the last section. So only have my chrispark designs nfb telescopic cane left. I'm mainly a guide dog user but good to have a back up.

I was looking at a off brand aluminum adjustable telescopic cane but it only goes up to 48". and I use 55" to59".

Nope, D Canes are only in one peace. They don't do collapsable nr telescoping canes.

Ok Audi have a straight cane from NFB in the closet

I actually crafted my own by finding a branch and trimming it down to the perfect length and screwing a tip on to the bottom. I’m jk but that would be cool. I’ll be getting a furry cane soon that guides me around tho
CosmicBunny97 5 points 3y ago
I want a furry cane that I can give cuddles!
msimmons024 2 points 3y ago
It would be quite something if u got a guide dog and named it Cane
CAHWY17 2 points 3y ago
my guide dog is a dachshund, yeah I did not find that out for a few days, but she is super!!
CosmicBunny97 1 points 3y ago
Oh my god what if?? Haha I would be so tempted to do that
CloudyBeep 2 points 3y ago
The word "dog" in Italian is "cane", but not pronounced the same.
CAHWY17 2 points 3y ago
AMBUTECH has been rock solid. I love the easy of use, selection of "tips" and sizing is easy. I ended up buy 1 for each car we own just in case I misplace my main weapon of choice. I like a 4 part folding unit.
siriuslylupin6 [OP] 2 points 3y ago
Hahaha! I like it weapon of choice and having one for each car is funny but neat. Hey I think I now have enough for that I may just do that. Hahaha!

I just order mine from AliExpress since no big brand delivers here. They're very durable, I've only had to change a cane once do to breaking, my fault though for giving the cane to some friends to play with. $20 per cane and they are nice and send an extra roller tip, that's the type I use.

Any reason to buy something obscure?
Arinvar 2 points 3y ago
My wife's is an obscure Swiss or German (I think) brand. It's easily half the weight of anything available "off the shelf" in Australia, and the brand offers a much much wider range of tips. The tips are easier to swap than her old one as well.
saharacanuck 1 points 3y ago
What brand does she use?
Arinvar 3 points 3y ago
Svarovsky is the brand.
saharacanuck 1 points 3y ago
Thanks
Arinvar 1 points 3y ago
Can't remember if the top of my head. I will check when I get home. It may well be a common brand outside of Australia for all I know.

Reizen makes some interesting canes, I have their hiking stick style one for going out fishing, it acts a id cane for those around me, is very hearty, and can take the weight if I use it to go wading.

For everyday use I have a selection of Ambutech canes, all sectionals, I don't like rigids. My personal favourite is my wooden handle with a high mileage roller tip.
OutWestTexas 1 points 3y ago
I like my Revolution cane. Canes are a personal preference.
