Text to Speech (self.Blind)

Hello everyone! I am looking for advice for my Dad who has a condition called retinitis pigmentosa. He cannot read printed documents anymore and we haven't been able to find something to help him with this. I was wondering if anyone could recommend any apps that can scan print and then read the document/picture out-loud. Thank you all for your time!!

Seeing AI is the most popular app for this. It works quite well in my experience. There is a setting for short text where you just point the camera at a piece of text and it will read it without having to take a picture. There is also a setting where you take a picture of the document and it scanned it in.

For Android, there's also Sullivan+ which is kind of neat.

> Envision AI

Seems to be free for 14 days then you have to pay

I can't tell how much it costs.

It was $14 a year last time I checked. Not great, but certainly cheaper than other options out there.

Seeing AI is big for this, but it's only for iPhone. Voice Dream Scanner is a close second. I love how in Scanner, you line up as best you can then move until you get the strongest tone then you snap. You can get really clean scans that way.,

I know someone who uses Voice Dream reader. I like how they accommodate the needs of partially as well as fully blind users.

Voice Dream Scanner is on offer for the next 2 days on Google Play - only £2.89 or your local currency equivalent. It says the the list price is £5.49 which is still cheap.

If he wants the phone talking to him constantly as someone who’s completely blind would have it, check out voiceover if je has an Iphone or talkback for android.

There’s also read screen whitch is built into the Iphone or seeing ai for the Iphone.

I just scan physical documents, books, papers and the like and save them in DOCS or PDF and then read them with my screen reader. Could also be an option for your dad if he's good with tech. I use ABBYY Fine Reader to scan. PM me if you need help with setting up if you end up doing it.

Thank you!! He isn't terribly good with tech, tends to be frustrating for him, but I will definitely keep that in mind!
