Parents (self.Blind)

They want us to be independent but not to independent? What does that even mean? Do you want us to stay with you forever or get out and be our own people?

When I went for O&M training I met a young woman (24) who had never learned to cut meat. She was blind since birth and totally dependent on others. I also met a young woman (22) who was blind since birth and was in grad school and travelled internationally independently. It depends on what a parent chooses in terms of independence.

It’s hard to let your child do something that has risks, but otherwise you stunt their growth. I’ve got 5 btw.

I don't know. I'm not a parent but I assume they are just afraid of letting go of a child they love and are worried they'll get hurt. This notion is exasperrated by sight loss as it makes it more difficult to live indepently.

In most circumstances it comes from a place of love and soon enough they will let go, it's pretty bittersweet to watch their baby grow up after all.

But what if they don’t want to let you go? But you want to move on with your life and be happy

Well omce you're a legal adult, their opinions don't matter and you can go live your life as you wish

I am a legal adult I just can’t move out because I have a disability

You still could, it's just more difficult to do so
