Myopic Macular Degeneration... long term outcome? (self.Blind)
submitted by phatpenguin11
Hi everyone,

I apologize is this is not the appropriate place to ask ask this question but I'm not really sure where else to look. I'm pretty highly myopic and had a bleed in my left eye's retina that was cleared up with an Avastin injection. It looks like the bleeding cleared up but left a scar that's affecting my central vision. My Dr was referring to this condition as myopic degeneration I didn't realize high myopia could lead to permanent vision damage.

I guess what I'm asking is has anyone here experienced this or know of anyone who's experienced this condition? I'm being told by my physician that I'm going to have to expect getting eye injections for the rest of my life? I'm not really sure what to expect and am uncertain if this is something that could affect both of my eyes or if an eye that has bled already can even maintain stability for long periods of time.

Your doctor would know your medical situation a lot better than we can, so they could know whether injections are necessary or not. However, you can check with other doctors for a second opinion as well.

what is your prescription? Do you also have high astigmatism? Astigmatism is often (but not always) related.

Because of the condition, you will be more prone to retina tears and retinal detachment, so that will be something the doctors will be monitoring.
