Descriptive audio movies and shows for free (self.Blind)
submitted by Readinghood_13
So there might already be a post about this but I haven’t been a part of this Community long so I haven’t seen it. To preface this I’ve been completely blind my whole life and I use a iPhone with a screen reader. So there’s this website I found called the audio vault. They offer MP3 files of a whole bunch of different movies and shows for free. It’s a nonprofit crowdfunded website. I don’t know much about the developers or anything but it’s completely safe no viruses or anything. They have everything from the newest joker movie to all eight seasons of the vampire diaries. http://audiovault.net/

The legality of this is very questionable. People should be aware.

Oh yeah!
Played the first 27 minutes of a movie for the first time ever on that site a few weeks back; was promptly interrupted by my country’s federal police force and anti-piracy squad kicking down the door, tasering me 6 times, cuffing, beating me senseless and locking me in a piss-riddled, dank, freezing cold jail cell for a while. /s
Come on now man. Powers at be have much bigger fish to fry than a few hundred (even couple thousand for that matter) blind people streaming the audio-only tracks of some shows/movies.
In all seriousness, by no means am I one of these entitled, whiny VI folks who think everything in the world should be free/handed to us.
Reality of the situation is the fact a lot of this AD content is not readily available either for purchase online/hard-copy disc or on TV in a number of regions. The US, Canada and UK are exceptions to that rule.
Until producers/venders/television providers around the world wake up, people will get it where they can.
Tl;dr Until AD content is available on a wider scale, it’s a good thing sites like this exist.

I was just informing people. This site has not been taken down, but someday it could be.

Getflix originals have AD in just about any country. It's the same with content from iTunes. Looking at the recent uploads on that page, I see that quite a lot of the content is available everywhere with AD. It's a crime to copy and reproduce the audio of the movie, which is made very clear by the legal disclaimers which are read aloud at the end of the credits.

You must be tuns of fun at parties.
I’m honestly not sure if you’re being purposefully obtuse, or legit thick.
You do realize there’s a world of entertainment options out there aside from Netflix/Apple, right?
Other than a few documentaries, originals on both platforms are absolute crap IMO.
Great series produced by public broadcasters such as the BBC, CBC and PBS aren’t globally available.
There’s also Hulu, again, not available outside the US,, both for original and syndicated offerings.
Relax and let people do what they do.

I think we should acknowledge the work that iTunes and Netflix have done when there is no legal requirement to do so. Netflix commissions several hundred hours of audio description each month and has about 2000 audio described titles in most countries. Disney has recently described hundreds of old movies. Apple TV+ has audio description in nine languages for all of their content.

I'm advocating for the greater availability of audio description in my country. I hope that at least some of the blind people who use illegal sites do the same. I have long been of the opinion that if you don't help with the advocacy, you should feel guilty when enjoying the reward which others have fought for.

So?

Creating audio description costs money. There's no legal requirement that most of the streaming services create description. The money to create audio description could be spent on other things, so if you value it and want more of it, you should support the companies whose investment in audio description is benefiting you.

I thought so since the developer isn’t listed. Although sadly there aren’t a whole lot of other options for some people.
This nonprofit website is run by volunteers.
Please contribute if you can. Thank you!
