Tips on writing blind characters (self.Blind)
submitted by sunoaa
Hi all! I am not blind but have major vision problems and may be in the future. I am currently writing a story where one of the characters is blind and was wondering if anyone had any advice for me! Thanks for reading :)

There are lots of great threads on this reddit which have discussed this even in the last week or two, so you might want to try running some sort of search if you can. Those threads tend to list the top half dozen really bad things that people do. Beyond that though you pretty much have to start defining your character. A lot of that will come from what you need that character to do in your story, so maybe describe the character a bit so we can talk about it.

Thank you for the suggestions! The character in question (a reformed antagonist) is a sort of messenger between two nations and was blinded by the protagonist during a fight. Now the protagonists are sort of watching over him and guiding him (the character is 14, the second youngest in my story). He’s kinda hotheaded and tends to not think before he acts. For reference, think similar to Ethan Nakamura from PJO or Zuko from ATLA.
