Can blind people visualize the surrounding environment by listening to the sound that raindrops make when hitting everything? (self.Blind)

Personally, its not sound but smell. Every one and everything has a sort of cloud of shell of scent around it. My nose knows what is around the corner or behind the table in ways your pathetic squishy eyeballs can only dream.,

Haha I liked daredevil too

Are you asking if blind people have sonar capabilities?
DaaxD 2 points 3y ago
$1

ps. I usually use markdown to format links I post, like the one above. Should I keep doing it here on /r/blind or are those formatted links significantly less accessible for screenreader tools compared to unformatted links?

They're fine; do whatever you prefer.
CloudyBeep 4 points 3y ago
No, because they make too much noise, and you can't distinguish, for example, between it falling on cement, grass and trees.

Lol. It's a myth. But I've heard blind people use clicks and whistles to detect things. That is super rare.

It can really only happen on the level people know it as if the blind person was born blind and started that process from really really young when their brain is developing

No it can actually be slightly disorienting depending on how hard it’s raining. On the other hand as someone above mentioned I can use echo location decently. I don’t have to whistle or click to use it, in fact that does nothing for me, and it doesn’t work at all on something knee height and below and gradually gets better the closer to head height you get. In addition if I’m moving fast it’s harder to recognize. For example I’ll recognize in a vehicle with the windows opened that we just passed something else but by that time it’s already come and gone. If I am running I will run into a wall before I since it’s there. Hell on that note if my mind is wondering and I’m walking I’ll do the same thing. In other words it’s cool, I’ve used it and it’s made my life better, but it doesn’t replace a cane. Truthfully it can get annoying if you’re somewhere public and you know something is there but you don’t know what it is.

Um... No? At least, I can't. There are some blind people that are more $1 than I am, who can hear what kind of coins you have based on sound, but I doubt even they can do this.

Fireworks are better. They echo off everything. Obviously that only works with giant buildings and things. With rain you can't hear through the other raindrops, if you know what I mean.

Neither of them let you "visualise the surrounding environment" as you suggest but they can give you a sense of space. Personally that's one of the things I really miss. I am never really aware of anything more than a few feet from me unless it is making noise. I am certainly not aware of the big space of a city street, really. It's stifling. As a result I really love fireworks displays that happen in cities because you can get a sense of all the enormous buildings looming around you and how big everything is. A sense of space is nice sometimes.

It doesn’t rain much here in Nevada, but I did find my mailbox one time by listening to the hail hitting it. It does hail.

:) Love the daredevil mythbuster question

No, not in my case. I don't get cool Daredevil vision like Ben Afleck or Charlie Cox.
