Does anybody know if a screen reader that will read books on overdrive out? (self.Blind)
submitted by BazTheBaptist
I'm not blind, but this seemed like a place people might know so I hope it's ok to ask.

Google talks about certain books that can be exported to Kindle but I just want a screenreader app that will read my page on standard overdrive on android if that's even possible.

Thanks in advance

I only use OverDrive for audiobooks but I would reach out to over Dr specifically about that feature your device and what voiceover service you're using they are really striving to improve their accessibility all the time so they should respond.

I don't use Overdrive, but if it has a website, try using the free screen readers Narrator (included with Windows), VoiceOver (included with macOS) or NVDA (downloadable for Windows).

It's just an app, appreciate the thought though. I'll edit to mention that I'm looking for Android actually, I didn't think of it at the time.

Have you tried the Android screen reader TalkBack?
BazTheBaptist [OP] 2 points 3y ago
I have not. I tried the built in one accessibility feature which didn't work and then started googling but not with great results. I'll give that one a try tonight as well.

You'll need to use different gestures to interact with the screen.

I am not sure how Overdrive works, but you might want to check out Voicedream, available both on Android and IOS. The way it works is you load a book from your phone or from a service such as Bookshare, and a designated voice reads it to you, even with the phone turned off. Can you download books from Overdrive straight to your phone so that you can load them through the app? Sorry I can't be of more help but maybe someone with more experience can chime in.

I don't think you can download the books like that. I do have some books I own so I will check out that app for those though, thanks!
