I'm a sighted person and was just curious to know how much visually impaired people rely on touch to experience the world. How might that change in the covid recovering world where touching things won't be very feasible? What do you do currently and how much has covid affected you?

Still gonna touch things no matter what.

What all do you use touch to identify? Specially in new environments or outside your home? How much do you rely on touching for identification?

I think that the people who used touch extensively before will continue to do so.

Do you think that might be considered a health hazard?
CloudyBeep4 points3y ago
Probably, depending on what they touch. But it definitely wasn't that healthy before, especially because they couldn't see if something was dirty before they touched it.

Oh yes that makes a lot of sense. How do they deal with it then? And people who don't reply on touch, how do you experience things apart from hearing?

I sometimes use my forearm or the back of my hand rather than my palm and fingers.

I was washing my hands before it became a trend... I use my cane as intended and I avoid touching many objects because I can identify them with my cane.

I rely on touch a lot, I’m vision impaired in one eye, and my near depth perception is pretty much gone. I feel like I’m a lot more conscious of the fact that I need to wash my hands/arms more often if I’m outside my home, and I carry hand sanitizer for when hand washing isn’t feasible.
