Hi, I'm a guitar player and my calluses do not prevent me from feeling Braille dots.

I know more than 20 blind guitar players and none of them report having issues reading Braille.

I'm utterly crap at braille and I have tried repeatedly to learn it. I am a bass guitar player for a living, I have finger ends like leather and I have been using that as an excuse.

But in all honesty no, you get guitar calluses on the ends of your fingers and you read braille with the pads on your fingers so I need to stop using that excuse.

I don't find that they stop me from reading braille.

I decided to give up guitar because it was interfering with my Braille reading I thought ... either that or I just did not think I was good enough and gave up practicing haha.

I haven’t played in a long time but it never did.

why would we you need way more than calosy to lose sensitivity on your fingers.

Im a sighted teacher for students with visual impairments.
Braille readers do need to protect their hands. Whether calluses impede their reading depends on the person, their sensitivity, and their braille skills.

It is definitely a consideration, but there are probably ways to combat the loss of sensitivity.
