My Dad needs sunglasses. 76 Year old with Macular Degeneration(self.Blind)
submitted by coshea91
Hi All, Just came across this subreddit and was hoping someone here could help me out.
My dad is 76 and suffers from Macular Degeneration. HE called me today to have a look online for a good pair of sunglasses. Been looking online all afternoon but there are a lot of options out there.
Any recommendations would be awesome.

I'm assuming these are not prescription sunglasses? If you just need a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes, Two Blind Brothers have a wayfarer style glasses for $125 which they will replace at no cost if you lost or break them. Pretty spectacular! Unfortunately, they only have one style. Hoping they come up with more soon.
These are nice because of the side shields that block light from the sides. They also come with straps. Depending on his sensitivity the spectron 4 block 95% light which is very dark and all their lenses are UV400.

I got super dark sunglasses on Amazon for $25.

If looks aren't too important, or you have a hankering to look like a dorky JC Denton, then I recommend Cocoons. They sell on their own website, but they're usually cheaper through Amazon. They're not pretty, but they wrap around and do a very good job of shielding the eyes.

Wrap-arounds in general are a very good option. They come in mostly masculine, sporty styles so there's a little bit of choice there. I use Cocoons every day, but I've been wanting to switch to something else. Oversized sunglasses also might work, so that gives more options for styles. You can branch out into androgynous or feminine looks, if that's your thing.
