Lego releases text-based instructions for blind builders for 25 sets!(self.Blind)
submitted by Motya105
Hi All, I just wanted to let you know that Lego recently released text-based instructions for 25 of their sets, so blind people can build them independently! You can download the instructions from legoaudioinstructions.com. Sets cost from 10-30 US dollars. Are there any sets that you would like to be made accessible for blind builders? If yes, please let me know, I’m currently organizing a group of sighted instruction-writers, since Lego will not adapt any sets released before this year. Thanks!

I’d like more info on volunteering to write instructions. Can you message me, please?

Oh man any chance we can get instructions for older Technic sets? I got 42039 Le Mans race car few years ago while I could still see but never got to build it. I also have the Technic Racing Kart with the two speed transmission, and Kylo Ren battlefigure that are unbuilt. Dont remember the exact numbers for those.

I’ll see what I can do. I dont know how long it will take, since I’m still looking for volunteers who’d be writing the text-based instructions. I’ll keep those sets in mind, and will keep you posted. Thanks!

Have you tried posting in the Lego subreddit? Also the numbers for the two other sets are 42048 for the Racing Kart, and 75117 for Kylo Ren.

I would also like to volunteer as an instruction writer.

I'm guessing that means we won't get instructions for the lunar lander set? That's a shame. I'd really like to build that one.

I’ll see what I can do. I don’t know how long creating the instructions will take, since I’m still looking for the volunteers who’d be writing them. I’ll keep you posted! Thanks!

I got you. I’m starting with that one right now.

I posted in the Lego Sub-Reddit, and there might be some volunteers there as well. I’ll keep you posted on the Technic sets. Thanks!

I’ll see what I can do. Thanks!

I’ll see what I can do. It might take a while, since volunteer instruction-writers are currently working on other sets. I’ll keep you posted.

It seems like it would be a bit redundant, but I think that it’s awesome people are willing to take on such a grueling task just for the sake of doing something.
Motya105 [OP]1 points3y ago
Agreed. Thanks to all the Redditers creating instructions!
Papyrus70211 points3y ago
How are the instructions going to work though? Do you not really know yet? I honestly don’t have any idea how they would be able to build them, considering the fact that it may be difficult to properly figure out where the pieces go, or in some cases what piece they are trying to find.

Any of the star wars sets!!!! Lol or harry potter ones too why not
Motya105 [OP]2 points3y ago
You can find instructions for the T16 Skyhopper Vs Bantha, and the Kylo Ren’s shuttle microfighters on legoaudioinstructions.com. The former costs 20 dollars, while the latter costs 10. Thanks!

Oh hell yes. Now I just gotta buy those sets lmao.

This is very cool. I've been having a harder time building LEGO sets, but nothing will stop me from doing it.
I took a look at the instructions for Street Sweeper and have a suggestion: could you add the step number from the original instructions? That would make it easier to get back to where you left off after a break and would be handy to orient a sighed person if you want them to look over the booklet at any point.
Thanks for doing this!
Motya105 [OP]2 points3y ago
I let Lego know about the step numbers, hopefully they’ll add them soon!

Great, thanks!

I enjoy playing with Legos but I've never built designs provided on the booklets. I'll check out a couple of the Legos provided within the 30 sets. Thank you for your efforts for making more sets accessible.
