What’s the best way to use Reddit (self.Blind)
submitted by rp-turtle
To the blind users, what is the best way for you to use Reddit?
Jaws in a browser on windows.
Voice over in a browser on Mac.
Mobile (using either The mobile browser or the app).

I am new to Reddit and find that the app on iOS with voiceover is a horrible mess of untagged buttons. I’m looking for a better method of using Reddit. Thanks

Old reddit is great on Windows and Mac! The new/current version of the Reddit site is awful in terms of screen reader accessibility for me at least. On the iPhone, the official Reddit app is a mess but bacon reader and apollo are quite useable. I'm interested in this Dystopia app and I wonder when it'll be out of bayta...

Oh okay I see. Thanks for your reply. I have been using BaconReader for two days now and it seems pretty good. I’ll still check out Apollo too though.

I use r/dystopiaforreddit.

Thanks for the tip. If you’re a blind user, which of the methods mentioned above do you use to access Reddit?
CloudyBeep 2 points 3y ago
I just told you how I access Reddit—using the Dystopia app.
rp-turtle [OP] 2 points 3y ago
I have no clue what that means but thanks.

Here's some information and a link to download it. https://www.applevis.com/forum/i-made-fully-accessible-reddit-app-ios-its-free-ad-less-and-i-need-beta-testers

There is an iOS app currently in beta called Dystopia. It is designed to be accessible with VoiceOver. If you go to r/dystopiaforreddit, you can learn about the app and find the link to download it.

More information was provided already, but I wanted to comment that Dystopia is not in the app store yet. You need to download an app called Test Flight so that you may be able to load the program as an aplication on your iPhone. It's quite accessible.

If you have an iPhone, I use the app Apollo for Reddit. It’s great and after mentioning some accessibility concerns to the creator, he implemented more features for voiceover. I would definitely check it out, it’s the best Reddit experience on mobile.

How does Apollo compare with Dystopia?
BlindsightBlue 1 points 3y ago
I actually haven’t tested out Dystopia. I just enjoy Apollo a lot so I never felt the need to test a different app.

I'll try Appolo then, and see how it compares. Great endoursement though, if Appolo is so good that even a blindness specific app doesn't get you away from it. Thanks. :)

Yes, I use an iPhone. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll check it out!

Use $1 The developers have been very receptive to accessibility feedback and it's the most VoiceOver friendly iOS reddit app out there. I only use that now and rarely if ever go to the main reddit site on my Macbook Pro.

Edit: Added App Store link to BaconReader.

I use BaconReader on the iPhone.
rp-turtle [OP] 1 points 3y ago
Thanks for your reply. Is that a third party app like dystopia?
BenandGracie 1 points 3y ago
Yes. You can get it from the App Store.
