Isn't it better to install something that as you release the door slams it closed instead of an alarm? It would probably be cheaper and more officient.

Or some kind of hinge. I don't know what there're called but my desktop has a door with those. When you open it, it's constantly pulling the door inward, and as soon as you release it, the door slams closed, exactly like an elastic string.

This should be fairly easy to install. My mom's refrigerator came with one and we did not even order it that way just an extra feature.

Check this item out! First link is description, second link is how to purchase.

"The DA20 has an adjustable delay circuit which allows you to keep the door open for up to 21 minutes without it responding. After this delay, it emits a loud pulsing tone to alert you to the fact that the door has been left open. Once the door is closed, it resets to its monitoring state. Because of the delay feature, you are not forced to listen to an annoying sound while you want the door open. It will let you know when it has been left open however."

I've seen good results with NRS door/window alarms, but I'm in the UK.

it's just a manufacturer I've seen people use here. They're available on Amazon UK but I don't know about international shipping. If you search "magnetic door alarm" you'll get quite an array of choices

most times an alarm is a sound I think. :)
