Glasses blocking peripheral vision and becoming dangerous. (self.Blind)
submitted by letspaintthesky
Hey there.

I'm photophobic and have figured out that dark glasses are the solution to the pain behind my eyes.

Of course, herein lies the problem. The glasses I wear most (which allow for a semi decent amount of light at night without streetlights hurting my eyes) also happen to be made in such a way that there's a window of non-blurry visibility at the front and that's it. I wear Noirs, and they blur out my peripheral vision at the top, bottom, and sides of my vision.

I'm starting to stumble and fall and trip over the dog (inside old grandma dog. 16 and blind, very very short) amongst a variety of other things (electrical cords, the space heater, shoes, cracks in the footpath, curbs, dips in the road, ets) and I can't help but feel that the glasses are half the problem. I can't live with them, can't live without em.

Anyone have any work arounds for a vision impaired klutz who can't see both where's she's headed and where she's walking at the same time? Looking at my feet doesn't work, I get awfully dizzy when I tilt my head down that far.

Thanks :)

Maybe consider learning how to use a white cane to navigate around? Sounds like it'll fix most of your issues!

Yes. Also, they make devices for dogs called halos. They’re basically like a top of a life jacket that you put on the dogs neck over the collar, and it has a plastic semicircle on it that lays horizontally above the dogs head. They allow a dog to be able to bump into things (and their humans) without injuring themselves. While not perfect for this situation, combining that with cane training for you could really help everyone in this situation

I actually got a pair of welding glasses for my photophobia and BEB, and they work amazing outdoors- bought them cheap from amazon. Indoors I use glasses with and FL41 coating (reduces blue light).

I purchased a pair of “sport style” prescription sunglasses. They curve around. You can also search for motorcycle sunglasses.
The prescription lenses part clips on the inside and has cushioning on the edges.

I have no peripheral vision and I would actually love some glasses that fully block transverse light haha

Try Noirs-they come in a lot of colours and strengths.
