Opinion on a Dating App for visually impaired people(self.Blind)
submitted by dieserMoritzKOI
Hello guys,
I hope everything is fine. Sorry for my English, i am not an english native speaker.
So i have a friend who is blind and he complained to me, that the modern dating world excludes people like him. Everything is based on looks and pictures. So we came to the conclusion, that we could make a Dating-App which is voice based.

Instead of profiles with pictures you swipe a voice message, if you like the voice you could go on their profile and listen more to them and afterwards send them a text-message back.

So it's like Tinder just with voices.

My question is, would anyone else besides my friend use this app? Maybe not only for dating, but for finding friends too.

What do you think about it?
Greetings

Personally, I would not use that app because it doesn’t sound like it provides any information on what the person looks like. I think it would be much better if the existing dating apps just included descriptions of photos like many websites do these days.
As a blind person, I still care about my partners appearance. If someone doesn’t like the current objective nature of dating apps, that’s totally valid but I don’t think it has much to do with blindness necessarily. I use all the dating apps now but I do so with sighted friends. They act as my photo describers.
The notion that all blind people, simply due to their being blind, don’t care about their partners appearance has certainly been a myth in my experience. Additionally, the notion that someone’s voice is enough to motivate a blind person to date someone entirely regardless of their appearance has also been not true in my experience. However, I do agree that most dating apps are quite inaccessible which is unfortunate.

He should try Vorail. I've heard that the people who use it are a bit weird, but he might like it.

It’s definitely weird. However, many couples met on there. So, you never know.

Yes, I think it is.

I think it’s brilliant! My friend is adjusting to his blindness and would love some options besides Tinder and Bumble. I have had sighted friends who shied away from those dating apps because they were physically insecure, despite assurances that they looked fine. You could corner the audio market. Please let me know if you need any help beta testing!

I forget the exact numbers, but only a small percentage of blind people, are totally blind.. I have some trash eyes. But I still can see a bit, and even through what I call ”permanent beer goggles” I still would Prefer her to be hot lol
when it comes to my priorities in a woman, the sound of her voice is very close to the bottom

sounds cool I had heard of a site that does similar but not sure if they are shut down or not. but I would certainly use this app.

Tinder already allows you to upload video media or YouTube clips. Basically record and upload a clip of you speaking your profile info/bio. The audio only feature is an interesting concept, but I figure it to be more of a feature in an existing app rather than building an entirely new platform centered solely around it. Plus most of the dating apps are moving to video dating with the state of the pandemic, and figure that tech will continue on when we can meet folks responsibly in person again.

Phone chat lines are also very similar to what you are proposing.

Hi, Vorail was designed to be audio based; no pictures and very little information in profiles. People ask questions and conversations flow. The app was designed as a dating app, but blind people highjacked it. People are there to meet others, friendships, relationships, both possitive and negative are there. Is your friend interested in dating other blind people, or would sighted people be okay too?

sighted people would be okay too, in general this app could work for both blind/impaired people and people with normal sight.

It would be cool if dating apps had a voice message feature because that is one of the ways I judge attractiveness but descriptions are cool too. I really can't feel anything until I meet the person but in general, it would be cool to have.

Maybe not this app exactly but I'd use a dating app that was made just for visually impaired people
