Update
I called Freedom Scientific and they Assistive me in updating the firmware and removed the device from something related to power save mode and my antivirus settings.

Hi. I recently received the Pearl Camera to use in conjunction with Open Book 9.0 on a laptop that is running Windows 10. Upon connecting the Pearl Camera to my laptop, I added the device as one of the scanning sources within the advanced settings of Open Book. After initiating the scan, there is a chime sound that continues to play for as long as over a minute instead of the usual camera flash sound. For every 10 attempts, Open Book will recognize maybe one or 2 attempts and provide the text of the scanned page. Open Book will sometimes not even acknowledged that the Pearl Camera is plugged in even though my laptop can see the device. I am pretty sure that Open Book is not the problem because I have used it to perform OCR on PDF files that I have downloaded along with papers scanned using a printer that has a built in scanner. I know that lighting is not an issue either. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do? If I cannot figure things out with tech support tomorrow, I will then have exchange the product. Thank you to anyone who responds.
