writing on a board (self.Blind)
submitted by SirJektive
I'm near-totally blind, and I need to teach myself to be able to write legibly on a blackboard or whiteboard. I was wondering if there are people around who have done this who might have tips or strategies.

I find the hardest parts to be preventing lines from slanting, keeping letters a uniform size, and keeping track of where lines start so I can write below them in proper alignment.

Even fully sighted people struggle to make their handwriting readable on a board. I say just practice. It doesn't have to he perfect as long as it's readable

Practice, and maybe looking for a line guide like they sue for paper, or making one of your own out of cardboard!

One of my teachers in school had a straight edge that had a handle that she would hold with her non-dominant hand while writing with her dominant hand so she could write straight on the board.

I had teachers who did this. I’ve no idea how they juggled it. Her brain must’ve been wired just right :)

I mean, can you see what you're writing? Because if not, it's going to be very difficult to improve, as you will have no feedback as to how it looks.

I learned to write when my vision was better. One thing I've discovered is that I write much better if I don't look at what I'm writing. i don't know why that is, maybe it's because it takes the visual process out and leaves it to muscle memory.

Maybe you could place painters tape on the board if you work in the same places.

Hi, from experience needing to do the same, I'd recommend you learn to use a projecter. You could type on a word document and have the text appear on the board.

You could attach elastic string horizontally across the white board to use as guide lines.
