I've been wondering about these questions and wasn't sure where to ask them. I hope I didn't phrase them incorrectly or inappropriately and was just curious about the community. (self.NoStupidQuestions)

I don’t know about sighted people but I keep a very regular schedule of sleep because it’s easy to get completely out of sync with the time. Whatever time I go to bed I’m up at 6am and I never sleep until at least 10pm. As a teen I totally fucked up my sleep pattern and tit took months to get right. Never again

My eyes close when I sleep otherwise they would dry out.

If you're looking for a legit answer, I would recommend checking for scientific research via google scholar. You will only get anecdotal experiences here. I was curious, too, though--it seems a few studies have found more sleep-wake disorders in those who are totally blind or nearly totally blind. Please note that the blind community includes a much wider array of visual capabilities. Persons who are completely blind, for instance, are about 10% of the entire blind community. That is mostly the community of focus by greater society, though--the rest of us get a little forgotten.

Yeah I was wondering if anyone had any stats on that? Like what's the ratio on how many people are completely blind to how many here are visual impaired but can still see to a certain degree

If you want the "interesting" answer, some people with sight problems see weird flashing patterns and bright lights. I am one of those people. Normally my experience of falling asleep is exactly like it is for anyone, but occasionally (a couple of times a month maybe) it's like trying to fall asleep while staring into a flashlight. There is nothing you can do about it, you can't close your eyes (your eyes are already closed) and you can't look away, it's just fixed there. It's about as much fun as it sounds, but it usually goes off in an hour or so.

You’re lucky. The darker it gets the more I get that unless i'm tired then I'll get it anyway. I have a small bit of light perseption and it occured to me the other night that it's never really completely dark to me life is just different shades of what I think are muted grays.

Is this a situation you've been in all your life? I ask because it was very very bad immediately after I went blind, then it got very slowly better to the point where like I say, it's a couple of times a month for an hour or two. One of my padawan learners, who I mentor, is in the last stages of RP and has just some light perception and has the same problem. It sucks if you have appointments early the next day and you can't sleep, you may know that dance. People ask if it's all black, you think black would be nice sometimes.

I don't feel that lucky when it's happening. People probably look at me squinting and think "what the hell is she doing she can't see anyway."

No. Up until my mid 20's I only had light perseption but it was far more than I have now. I would only see the gray when I was really tired. Then about 11 or 12 years ago I began to lose a decent amount of the light perseption and that's when it got really bad. You used to have vission so this explanation might make since. I used to be able to see the light coming from computer monitors and TV screens. I couldn't see anything on them it was just always a large blob with a constant shade of light that didn't change. That is what now covers my field of vision.

The way you describe it is exactly the same as my latest padawan learner. She has RP which was very fast and aggressive, and her vision has basically turned into what she describes as a grey blob that gets brighter when she faces a light source. She gets the flashing lights really badly to the point where she was so unable to sleep she was taking time off school, so people do get it really bad.

No I didn’t say that

Ok I have friends that are visually impaired and they are friends forever
swt1021 -10 points 3y ago
In my mind that is rude I have many blind friends and I wouldn’t date ask them that

I don't think OP meant any disrespect. It's perfectly fine to be curious and have questions like this. We shouldn't feel bad for wanting to understand each other. Whenever a friend asks me about my conditions or anything I appreciate the thought and effort they're putting to want to understand me more.
